6 free-agent tight ends the Vikings could sign in 2021

Jonnu Smith
It’s hard to look at the way Jonnu Smith goes about his business and not be impressed. The tight end has really caught the eye during his time with the Tennessee Titans despite playing in a run-first offense that leaves opportunities limited, which is reflected in his numbers over the last two seasons.
That being said, Smith could be capable of much more with additional responsibilities on his shoulders. So providing the price is right, the Vikings should give the player a closer examination.
His ability to catch under pressure is a notable feature of his play. The former third-round pick can also use his physical frame in a positive fashion to get open quickly across the middle or in the red zone.
Smith’s time with the Titans is expected to come to an end this offseason. There will be more than a few teams looking to bring him on board, so whether that will price Minnesota out of any potential move in free agency remains to be seen.
The upside is undoubtedly there where Smith is concerned, who brought in 41 receptions from 65 targets on his way to 448 receiving yards and eight touchdowns during the 2020 campaign. But whether he’s in the Vikings’ price range or not is highly questionable.
