5 prospects the Vikings could reach for with their 2021 first-round pick

Trevon Moehrig – S (TCU)
The Vikings will no doubt be drafting a safety in the 2021 NFL Draft. Not only will they be looking for a safety, but they’ll be looking for one who can start. There isn’t one who is regarded as being one of the top 15 players in this class, but if the Vikings force the issue, they could pull the trigger on Trevon Moehrig when they are on the clock in the first round.
Moehrig has plenty of talent, he is sticky in coverage and has great ball skills, as proven by his seven career interceptions. His athletic ability is top-notch and he’s able to cover a ton of ground in a hurry. While he isn’t afraid to come up and support the run, his tackling needs a little work. Moehrig is the one safety in this class who is definitely ready to start from day one and that is what’ll make him extra attractive to the Minnesota Vikings.
Anthony Harris is almost a lock to sign with a different team in the offseason. This puts a huge hole next to Harrison Smith in the back end of the Vikings’ secondary. The team doesn’t have a ton of cap space to go out and sign a replacement in free agency, so taking Moehrig could be their best bet to find a quality solution to their safety problem. While he could have an impact in year one, he’s widely regarded as a later first-round pick, so the Vikings should look to move down if they feel he’s the guy they need to have with their first choice this year.
