The Carolina Panthers took a somewhat surprising decision to part ways with Tre Boston just one season removed from the veteran signing a three-year, $18 million extension. His play in 2020 didn’t get anywhere close to the production that earned him a new deal and considering the savings involved, this was a smart move by an organization that is intent on making big waves in the coming weeks.

Boston is a solid if not spectacular contributor. He did have his struggles both in run support and in coverage last season and although he is a lively presence within the locker room, performances on the field are all that counts when it’s all said and done.

It’s easy to forget that Boston’s exceptional 2019 campaign saw him named to Pro Football Focus’s All-Clutch team, so it might be worth the Vikings enquiring about the player’s interest and the sort of money it would take to bring him on board.

It’s highly unlikely that Anthony Harris will be back after playing last season on the franchise tag. Targeting someone like Boston to play alongside Harrison Smith would keep the experience factor on the backend and provide reassurance to cornerback duo Jeff Gladney and Cameron Dantzler ahead of a critical second year for the duo.
