Joey Slye

2020 Team: Carolina Panthers

On the surface, Joey Slye looks like a kicker that is sporadic. With an 80.6 percent conversion rate on his field goals, you might think the Vikings could do better. Then you consider how Matt Rhule deployed him last season.

Slye was an ultimate weapon for an underachieving Panthers offense and he was routinely sent out to kick bombs. While Slye was 1-for-6 from beyond 50 yards, two of those attempts were from 65 yards. Add those kicks to his performance last season and Slye was an 85 percent kicker.

At 25-years-old, Slye could be a bet on the future for the Vikings. This is the kind of free agent Minnesota should not only be looking for at kicker, but throughout all their free-agent endeavors.

If Minnesota can strike gold on one of them, they should have a much better special teams effort in 2021.
