4 free agents who have a connection to Minnesota Vikings coaches
By Adam Carlson
Keelan Cole, wide receiver – Jacksonville Jaguars
Connection to Vikings: Keenan McCardell
The Minnesota Vikings need some help at wide receiver. At first glance, their offense seems fine and should even be okay after moving on from tight end Kyle Rudolph, but if anything happens to the starters things could get exceptionally ugly with the depth available.
Keelan Cole is an interesting target because he will be 28 years old when the season rolls around. The undrafted free agent in 2017 worked with current Vikings wide receivers coach Keenan McCardell in Jacksonville from 2017 to 2020 and could give Minnesota an advantage in recruiting him.
Cole is unlikely to steal a starting role with the purple and gold, but his production over four seasons shows he could be a very capable third wide receiver. In 2020, he played in 16 games, started five of those, and accumulated 642 yards and five touchdowns on 55 catches.
Since the free agent market is loaded at wide receiver, there is a good chance Cole could be signed at a decent price. If that is the case, the Minnesota Vikings need to work out a deal with the young receiver to catch some passes from Kirk Cousins in 2021.
