Vikings reportedly looking to reunite with an old friend

A recent report indicates the Minnesota Vikings are interested in bringing back former cornerback Mackensie Alexander.
If anyone hasn’t noticed yet, the Minnesota Vikings are laser-focused on improving their defense this offseason.
The Vikings have already signed defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson and linebacker Nick Vigil in free agency this year, and the majority of their free-agent interest has been in players who line up on the defensive side of the ball.
To help get their defense back to performing like it did during the first few seasons of Mike Zimmer’s tenure as the team’s head coach, Minnesota is reportedly considering a free-agent corner who was a member of some of those past purple and gold defenses.
Minnesota Vikings reportedly interested in former cornerback Mackensie Alexander
Following the 2019 season, Mackensie Alexander hit the free-agent market after four years with the Vikings, and it was unclear if he would re-sign with Minnesota.
His future in the Twin Cities was a little cloudy since the end of his 2019 season didn’t go very well. As most of the team’s starters sat out for their Week 17 game to rest up for the playoffs, Zimmer forced Alexander to play despite him being a key part of their defense.
The veteran corner ended up injuring his knee during the game and he was forced to miss both of the Vikings’ 2019 playoff matchups. The decision to make Alexander play in the meaningless regular-season finale was not a smart one and it’s something that likely resulted in the corner signing with the Cincinnati Bengals last offseason.
Alexander is a free-agent again this year, and apparently, Minnesota has considered bringing him back. According to the Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling on Tuesday, the Vikings even “have an offer on the table,” for their former cornerback to think about.
It felt like the relationship between Alexander and the Vikings was over given how 2019 ended. But it seems like this might not be the case. Will the 27-year-old corner give Minnesota another chance?
