5 candidates to be the Vikings new No. 3 running back in 2021
By Adam Carlson
Adrian Peterson (Free Agent)
This one had to be saved for last because it is bound to be the most controversial of all the entries in this list. Some fans would love to see the franchise leader in rushing yards return to play for the purple and gold, while others might be steadfastly against it.
Adrian Peterson doesn’t have much to offer in the realm of catching passes out of the backfield. That has never been the major strength of his game. But where he does excel is finding small holes in the trenches and squeezing through them to surprise defenders.
There is still some gas in the tank of the 35-year-old running back and he shows no signs of being ready to hang up his cleats any time soon. A return to Minnesota would allow him to add to his legacy and possibly retire as a member of the purple and gold when that time comes.
There isn’t much else that needs to be said about Peterson that fans don’t already know. His list of career achievements, accolades, and awards is a mile long, and the Vikings might be able to scoop him up for a small price this offseason, making this an intriguing option for the purple and gold this year.
