Fourth Round (No. 126 overall)

Jaelon Darden – WR (North Texas)

The Vikings will be adding a wide receiver at some point in the 2021 NFL Draft and why not grab one who can be their return man as well?

Minnesota tried doing this with K.J. Osborn a season ago, but he failed in that role, and he looks to be a longshot to make the team for next season. One prospect the Vikings hopefully have their eye on is Jaelon Darden from North Texas.

Darden is a velvety smooth route runner who is extremely quick in and out of his cuts. He was very productive last season as he caught 74 passes for 1,190 yards and an impressive 19 touchdowns. He averaged 16.1 yards a reception, so he is clearly a deep threat option in the passing game.

Darden also has experience returning punts and kicks. He didn’t do too much of it in 2020, as offense was his primary role, but he averaged 8.9 yards per punt return in his career at North Texas.

He could start out in that role as he becomes more comfortable with the speed of the NFL and his role in Minnesota’s offense. He is a bit limited by his size, as he’s just 5-foot-9. But his short-area quickness and overall elusiveness could make him a major weapon working out of the slot.
