Vikings Rumors: Does Minnesota have any interest in Richard Sherman?
By Adam Patrick
Among the recent Minnesota Vikings rumors is some speculation that they might be interested in signing free-agent cornerback Richard Sherman.
Last week, the Minnesota Vikings began the 2021 free agency period by patching up some holes in their defense. The Vikings were able to land defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson and cornerback Patrick Peterson in addition to improving their depth at linebacker with Nick Vigil.
Given Minnesota’s current cap situation, most have assumed that the team is probably done with their attempts to go after any more of the higher-priced players in free agency this year.
However, Richard Sherman is apparently someone who has been included in the group of free agents the Vikings are rumored to still be interested in adding this offseason. But how valid is this rumor about Minnesota expressing interest in Sherman?
Vikings Rumors: No reason to believe Minnesota is pursuing Richard Sherman
These rumors of the Vikings putting Sherman on their radar are only rumors and nothing more. Only a random account on Twitter has been posting that Minnesota is one of the teams interested in signing the former San Francisco 49ers cornerback.
The same account has been hilariously wrong about a number of things they have “heard” from their “sources”. Take a look below at some of their recent posts.
None of these players ended up landing with the teams that were mentioned. John Johnson eventually signed with the Cleveland Browns, Anthony Harris signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, and William Jackson signed with the Washington Football Team. These are just a few of the numerous posts in which this account has been completely wrong.
Free agency is definitely a time where many fall for all of the rampant rumors circulating around the internet. But unless the rumor or report is coming from someone who has a history of sharing information from legitimate sources, it’s extremely difficult to believe it to be true.
Plus, the Vikings just signed Peterson. Why would they bring in another high-priced, veteran corner when they’re trying to further the development of Cameron Dantzler and Jeff Gladney next season?
So until someone like Adam Schefter or another notable NFL insider is linking Sherman to the Vikings, there’s no reason to think that this rumor is even close to being valid.
