Minnesota Vikings cornerback Jeff Gladney has turned himself in to police after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend on Friday.
On Monday, Minnesota Vikings cornerback Jeff Gladney turned himself into the Dallas County Jail following an incident on April 2 in which he allegedly assaulted a 22-year-old woman who told police she was in a relationship with the young defensive back according to CBS 11 News in Dallas – Ft. Worth.
Gladney turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest and he has been charged with third-degree felony family violence assault. The Vikings corner is facing two to 10 years in prison if convicted.
The details of the alleged incident are disturbing and Gladney’s future in Minnesota could be over sooner than later as a result of this unfortunate event.
Minnesota Vikings CB Jeff Gladney allegedly strangled his girlfriend
According to CBS 11 News, the whole incident began when Gladney demanded the woman give him her phone after he became upset over some text messages.
He allegedly shoved her face toward the phone and pulled her hair to hold her head in place in order to get the phone’s Face ID function to work.
Later, Gladney hit the woman with a closed fist in various areas of her body, including “the side of her ribs, in the stomach, and the back.” He also allegedly hit her with an “open hand across the head.”
Unfortunately, Gladney was not done assaulting the woman. After returning to a Dallas apartment complex, the Minnesota cornerback allegedly strangled the woman for multiple seconds. Then he allegedly grabbed her by the hair and dragged her on the ground while she was outside of the vehicle that he was still driving.
Thankfully, the woman was eventually able to get away from Gladney, and she reportedly ended up with bruises on her head, ears, and torso in addition to scratches on her face and neck along with abrasions on her knees, according to local detectives.
Whether or not he remains with the Vikings, Gladney should expect to face a severe punishment from the NFL before he is ever able to play again as a result of this incident.
