Recent 2021 mock draft uses Trey Lance to troll Vikings fans
By Adam Patrick
The chances of Trey Lance ending up with the Minnesota Vikings during the 2021 NFL Draft are very low.
Given that former North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance grew up in the great state of Minnesota, him landing with the Minnesota Vikings in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft would be a marvelous story.
The problem is, at least for now, it’s not going to happen.
If the Vikings find a way to trade into the top 10, then sure, selecting Lance is much more likely. But for as long as Minnesota remains at pick No. 14 or later, there is no reason to expect that this talented quarterback prospect from Marshall, Minnesota will be playing for his hometown team next season.
Recent 2021 mock draft has Trey Lance miraculously landing with the Minnesota Vikings
According to the people with the most knowledge of this year’s draft class, Lance is projected by the majority to come off the board within the first 10 picks of the 2021 draft.
This hasn’t stopped people from giving Vikings fans false hope by projecting Lance to land with the purple in gold in the first round, which is exactly what CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco has happening in his recent 2021 mock draft.
With Minnesota remaining at pick No. 14, and not even trading up, Prisco has Lance falling all the way into the Vikings’ laps. This isn’t even close to being believable.
If Lance is still available after the first five selections of this year’s draft, teams like the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears are going to be scrambling to their phones to try and trade up in the first round to land the talented quarterback prospect.
It’s hard to determine why Prisco believes Lance will fall all the way to pick No. 14, but this is the same guy who said he would draft Christian Ponder over Cam Newton in 2011. So keep that in mind when reading his analysis.
Of course, the NFL Draft is one of the most unpredictable events in sports. So there’s still a chance that Prisco could look like the smartest analyst in football if Lance somehow falls to pick No. 14 and the Vikings actually select him. But don’t bet on it.
