Jamie Newman – QB (Georgia)

There is a lot of talk regarding quarterback prospects at the top-end of the 2021 NFL Draft. The expected run on signal-callers in the top-10 is set to be historic and that might leave the Vikings with a good opportunity to get their hands on a development project lower down the pecking order that nobody seems to be taking much notice of.

Jamie Newman has all the intangibles needed to be an enticing prospect, at the very least. Not participating in the 2020 season due to COVID-19 health concerns after transferring to Georgia from Wake Forest did him no favors whatsoever, with his rustiness on full display during Senior Bowl week to further decrease his draft stock.

Although things are going against Newman to a certain extent, there is a lot to like about his potential with a little more refinement. The Vikings don’t have anything like a pressing need at the position, thanks to the current form of Kirk Cousins, who put together his best statistical season last time out despite a dismal start before the Week 7 bye.

Newman has good arm strength, he can get out on the move when plays aren’t developing as expected, and he seems to evade pressure well. There is plenty of work to do regarding decision-making from the pocket, but learning from someone like Cousins is going to do his chances of forging a successful NFL career a world of good.
