Sixth-Round (Pick No. 199)

Jose Borregales – K (Miami)

As I am typing this potential pick, I can hear the groans from many Vikings fans who clicked all the way through this mock draft only to see a kicker be the team’s final selection of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Minnesota does need to figure out their situation at kicker. At the moment, they only have Greg Joseph on the roster and will either move forward with him or bring in some competition to make sure they get the situation right.

Jose Borregales is by far the best kicker in this draft class, having a big leg that can boot kickoffs into the end zone on a regular basis as well as put some distance behind field-goal tries. The Florida International and Miami (FL) connected on 20 of his 22 field goals in 2020 to go with all 37 of his extra-point tries. He would have some stiff competition for Joseph, who has made 17 of his 20 field goals in the NFL and 34 of his 38 extra-point attempts.

The loser of this competition would be a great option for Minnesota to slide onto their practice squad and tuck away in the event of a rainy day. It will look a bit odd without Dan Bailey booting the ball this season, but hopefully, the team made the right call moving on from the NFL veteran and can find an answer heading into the 2021 NFL season.

Which players would you like to see the Vikings come away with during the 2021 NFL Draft? And what other needs should be addressed earlier or later when the team is on the clock? Let us know your opinion in the comments.
