Jayson Oweh – DE (Penn State)

Jayson Oweh is a prospect who has been getting some late first-round buzz. He’s got ideal size and long arms, with great overall athletic ability and many compare him to Danielle Hunter. While he’s getting Day 1 buzz, he’s also a prospect who could take a big tumble on draft day, potentially all the way to the Vikings at pick 78.

Like Hunter, Oweh failed to produce during his final season in college. Despite playing in seven games last year, he didn’t manage a single sack, and that is very disappointing.

This guy is viewed as about as raw a talent that there is and will need a season or even two of learning, marinating, and growing, before he starts producing up to his potential. The lack of production combined with his rawness could cause Oweh to be available much later than many expect.

The Vikings have experience working with players like this and Andre Patterson could envision Oweh as his next pet project. He could see plenty of Danielle Hunter in this kid, and with D.J. Wonnum and Stephen Weatherly on the roster, they could bring him along slowly. If Oweh is able to adhere to Patterson’s teachings, the Vikings could again land a major steal in the third round.
