Minnesota will trade into the early part of the second round

Some might say this isn’t a very bold prediction given the reputation of Vikings general manager Rick Spielman to make multiple trades during each NFL Draft he’s participated in.

But Minnesota won’t just be settling for any pick they can get in the second round. They’re going to acquire a selection from within the first 10 picks of the round.

This will give the Vikings the opportunity to grab a prospect who slipped into the second round that the team might have given a first-round grade to.

Over the years, Minnesota has been able to add a bunch of talent in the second round of the draft, including Dalvin Cook, Eric Kendricks, Brian O’Neill, and Mackensie Alexander. So figuring out a way to get a pick in round two is likely going to be a top priority for Spielman and the Vikings on Friday.

There’s still a lot of talented prospects waiting to be drafted like safety Trevon Moehrig, wide receiver Elijah Moore, and defensive tackle Christian Barmore. Some of the guys left on the board even have the potential to start as rookies. By trading for an early second-round selection, Minnesota can add one of these top remaining prospects to their 2021 roster.
