What to expect from Patrick Jones II in 2021

Patrick Jones II comes to the Vikings ready to compete for a starting spot on the defensive line. While his game does have some flaws, he should be the top threat to unseat the returning Stephen Weatherly this preseason.

Teammates and coaches at Pitt have nothing but praise for Jones and speak highly of the former team captain. He brings some great leadership to the team, as well as the desire to win one-on-one matchups and create winning situations for his teammates.

Fans should expect Jones to become the team’s starter at some point. Whether it is winning the role outright or stepping in as a backup and proving his worth over time. It’s hard to know if that will be as a rookie, but the Vikings could choose to bring him along slowly and iron out his pass rush before giving him a larger role.

It would be shocking if Jones didn’t end the 2021 season with at least a handful of sacks if used in a rotational role. It could even be five or more if he sees the field more often. Considering that Minnesota only had 23 sacks as a team last year, having more talent like Jones available should make that number exceptionally embarrassing for the 2020 squad.

How do you feel about Patrick Jones II being a third-round pick for the Vikings? What do you think are his biggest strengths and weaknesses? And will he be able to win a starting role for the 2021 season? Voice your opinion in the comments.
