Minnesota Vikings: Way-too-early 53-man roster projection
By Adam Carlson
Special teams (3)
- Britton Colquitt
- Andrew DePaola
- Greg Joseph
Another NFL season has rolled around with the Minnesota Vikings needing to find an answer at kicker. This year, it will be a kicking competition between Greg Joseph and Riley Patterson, with the winner getting the job. At the moment, having experience is enough to give the nod to Joseph.
There will be competition at punter as well. Even though Britton Colquitt was solid last year as a punter and a holder, Zach Von Rosenberg will be looking to unseat him. That will prove to be too tough to do and Colquitt will likely return this year.
Minnesota is going to have long snapper competition as well. Andrew DePaola will return to the Vikings and face off against Turner Bernard for the job. This should be a one of the best competitions of camp and will rely entirely on the connection with whoever winds up being the team’s holder.
It is tough to find a unit that will mesh well together and stay together for many years. It is possible all three positions will have a new player handling the jobs moving forward. But if the team can find a unit that can stick together for multiple years, it will all be worth it.
Which players not mentioned in this article do you think will make the 53-man roster of the Minnesota Vikings? And who that cracked this 53 do you think will be on the outside looking in? Let us know your opinion in the comments.
