Despite only being on the field for less than two games last season, Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr still saw his stock rise.

After Barr suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2, Minnesota was forced to utilize Eric Wilson a lot more than they probably would have liked. Wilson made several impressive plays last year, but the absence of Barr was definitely felt.

The Vikings coaching staff likes to always talk about how Barr does so much more for their defense than what the stat sheet can keep track of. This felt like it was proven to be true in 2020 when Minnesota struggled to generate a pass rush and stop opposing running backs from gashing them for big gains.

Back in March, Barr did the Vikings a favor by renegotiating his contract to help the team clear some additional cap space this year. However, the new terms of his deal now have him scheduled to become a free agent in 2022.

Depending on how he performs next season or if Minnesota thinks they can replace him with someone cheaper in 2022, Barr’s time in the Twin Cities could be nearing the end.
