If the Vikings are going to bring in someone to take over Mike Hughes’ spot on the roster, they will likely be looking for a corner that is similar in size and skill-set to Hughes.

At 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, Bashaud Breeland is slightly larger than Hughes. But Breeland has excelled the most during his career when lining up in the slot, a spot where Minnesota was likely going to utilize Hughes in 2021 during his opportunities out on the field.

Breeland’s time in the NFL got off to a really impressive start when he was a member of the Washington Football Team. After leaving Washington in 2018, he has continued to produce at a solid level during his stints with the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs.

In 11 games with the Chiefs last season, Breeland racked up 38 tackles, nine pass breakups, two interceptions, and one forced fumble. In addition, his coverage only hauled in 50 percent of their targets last year, and opposing quarterbacks only had a rating of 78.3 when tossing passes in the direction of Breeland.

He might be looking for a larger role than what the Vikings can offer him. But if Breeland is interested in learning from a cornerback guru like Mike Zimmer, he would be a great addition to Minnesota’s defensive backfield.
