While Bashaud Breeland is a corner capable of playing on the outside and in the slot and Nickell Robey-Coleman is more of a one-dimensional defensive back, Bobby McCain could offer the Vikings depth at two different positions.

McCain began his career in the NFL as a corner who performed at his best from the slot. In 2019 and 2020, however, he lined up as a safety.

McCain wasn’t the second-coming of Harrison Smith during the last two seasons as a safety, but he still held his own. In 2020, opposing quarterbacks only had a rating of 64.3 when tossing passes in the direction of McCain.

If the Vikings bring in McCain this year, they would be adding depth to both the cornerback and the safety position groups. Unless he gets an offer to start somewhere else, this veteran defensive back is certainly someone Minnesota should consider signing before this summer’s training camp.
