The Minnesota Vikings appear ready to plan for the future beyond Kirk Cousins at quarterback.

In the 2021 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings used their second selection on Kellen Monds, a developmental quarterback that could take over for Kirk Cousins down the road. That pick made it clear that the Vikings are at least prepared to start planning for life after Cousins as he nears the end of his contract.

While Mond could be the guy to take over after Cousins departs, there is still a lot to work on with his game. If he does become a quality starter, the Vikings got a steal in the third round of the draft. However, if the opportunity presents itself, they should be open to upgrading from Mond.

Whenever a team can get better at quarterback in the draft, they simply have to make it happen. The 2022 draft class does not have a clear-cut top passer as things stand, but there are many intriguing options to be had in the early stages of the draft.

Spencer Rattler and Sam Howell will be the prized prospects at this time next year and will likely be top-10 selections when the time comes. Which other quarterback prospects could be in play for the Vikings later in the first round – or maybe even a little later – should they keep an eye on this season?

Let’s check out five quarterback prospects from next year that would be interesting to see on land with Minnesota in 2022 and beyond.
