Re-negotiating Barr’s contract

With Anthony Barr being the first player drafted by the Vikings after hiring Mike Zimmer, the head coach always going to have an attachment to the linebacker. But in 2022, Zimmer might have to say goodbye to Barr in a Minnesota uniform.

After the salary cap went backwards this year, the Vikings approached the veteran linebacker about re-negotiating his contract to help them create more spending money.

Barr ended up agreeing to a re-negotiated deal to help Minnesota out, but it came with a stipulation. Instead of his contract expiring in 2024, it would come to an end after the 2021 season, and he would become a free agent in 2022.

The Vikings really couldn’t agree to this re-negotiated contract fast enough. Not only were they able to create additional cap space with the new deal, but now they can just move on from Barr if he performs poorly next season.
