Former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs did not attend the Buffalo Bills first OTA practice of the year on Tuesday.
Two years ago as the Minnesota Vikings were preparing for the 2019 season, they began their annual OTA sessions without one of their top wide receivers, Stefon Diggs.
Diggs and the Vikings told everyone that it was nothing to worry about, but reports later came out that the receiver was trying to get the team to trade him, and that’s why he did not take part in the team’s first few OTAs of 2019.
Fast forward to Tuesday and Diggs was not present at the first OTA practice session of the year for the Buffalo Bills. Is this another case of the receiver being unhappy with his team or did he just decide to exercise his right as a player to not take part in the voluntary practices?
Former Minnesota Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs absent for Buffalo Bills first OTA practice of 2021
When asked about Diggs not being at Tuesday’s OTA session, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott said, “as far as we know, he’s good to go.”
So it doesn’t sound like the Bills are too concerned with the former Minnesota receiver not attending the team’s first OTA practice of the year. But this was also how the Vikings made it sound in 2019. So maybe Buffalo actually is a little worried about Diggs not showing up?
The former Minnesota pass-catcher was not the only Bills player that didn’t attend Tuesday’s OTA session though. Other notable members of Buffalo’s roster that weren’t at the team’s first 2021 OTA practice included wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, running back Devin Singletary, defensive end Jerry Hughes, and defensive tackle Star Lotulelei.
If any Bills fans are reading this, the reaction is probably, “oh, it’s just another bitter Vikings fan making something out of nothing when it comes to Diggs.”
But it really was not that long ago that the talented receiver was skipping Minnesota’s OTA practices because he was unhappy with his situation on the team. So if anything, this is more of just a friendly warning from a fan base that has gone through this before with Diggs.
Hopefully, for the sake of Buffalo’s diehard fans, this ends up being nothing and the former Vikings receiver continues to succeed with his current team.
