Top Vikings cornerback makes his debut at OTAs this week
By Adam Patrick
Minnesota Vikings cornerback Cameron Dantzler was a participant in the team’s OTA practice session on Tuesday.
When the Minnesota Vikings hit the practice fields at the TCO Performance Center last week for their first OTA sessions of the 2021 offseason, the majority of their roster was in attendance.
Of the Vikings players who did not show up to the team’s OTAs last week, Danielle Hunter was certainly the most notable name. However, one of Minnesota’s top young cornerbacks, Cameron Dantzler, was also missing from the team’s OTA practices last week.
After a rookie year that featured some promising moments, Dantzler is expected by many to begin his second season with the Vikings as one of the team’s two starting corners.
Cameron Dantzler makes his debut at the Minnesota Vikings OTAs on Tuesday
On Tuesday, Minnesota began their second week of voluntary OTA practices. There was still no sign of Hunter, but the Vikings made sure to post a clip on their Instagram account to show that Dantzler was definitely a participant this time.
The second-year corner got his first opportunity on Tuesday to work with some of Minnesota’s newest defensive backs, including Patrick Peterson and Mackensie Alexander. Dantzler is expected to play a key role in the efforts of Vikings head Mike Zimmer to get his secondary back on track in 2021.
As a rookie last season, Dantzler appeared in 11 games for Minnesota. He finished his first year in the NFL with 46 tackles (three for a loss), four pass breakups, two interceptions, an allowed completion rate of 63.4 percent, and an allowed passer rating of 92.8.
So there is certainly plenty of room for improvement for the young Vikings corner as he prepares for his second season with the franchise. Still, Minnesota should have a lot to be excited about when it comes to Dantzler, especially since he was actually one of the top cornerbacks in the entire NFL during the second half of the 2020 campaign.
In addition to Hunter still being absent from OTAs, there has not been anything reported about Vikings corner Jeff Gladney showing up this week. So it seems safe to assume he was not in attendance on Tuesday either.
