Vikings fans won’t like Patrick Peterson’s prediction about Larry Fitzgerald
By Adam Patrick
Does Minnesota Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson think his former Arizona Cardinals teammate, Larry Fitzgerald, will join him in the Twin Cities?
For the last few years, a portion of the Minnesota Vikings fan base has hoped to see Larry Fitzgerald leave the Arizona Cardinals, and finish his NFL career in purple and gold.
Currently, Fitzgerald is still a free agent, but he’s also at an age (37) in which he could choose to just hang up his cleats for good.
This offseason, the Cardinals added some new faces to their group of wide receivers, including A.J. Green, and rookie Rondale Moore. With guys like DeAndre Hopkins and Christian Kirk already on Arizona’s roster, it doesn’t seem like there is much room left for Fitzgerald if he still wants to play in 2021.
Patrick Peterson shares his thoughts on Larry Fitzgerald possibly signing with the Minnesota Vikings
So let’s say Fitzgerald still wants to play during the upcoming season, but the Cardinals aren’t willing to bring him back since they’re already set at the wide receiver position. Where might the veteran receiver end up?
Well, since he’s a native of Minnesota, most would assume that the Vikings would be among the teams in contention to sign Fitzgerald. Especially since Minnesota could use an upgrade at the No. 3 receiver spot.
Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson was recently presented with this scenario on his “All Things Covered” podcast and his prediction isn’t going to make the fans of his new team very happy.
"“I don’t see [signing with Minnesota] happening. If there was a team that [Fitzgerald] was going back to, it would be Arizona.”"
Peterson also said that he hasn’t heard anything about Fitzgerald possibly landing with the Vikings and he believes that the All-Pro wide receiver will either play for the Cardinals next season, or he won’t play at all.
As a teammate of Fitzgerald’s for 10 years in Arizona, the Minnesota cornerback’s thoughts on the subject should be taken seriously. Peterson knows how loyal Fitzgerald is to the Cardinals and just like most people, it’s difficult to see him suiting up for another team in 2021.
So even though he’s still a free agent, the chances of Fitzgerald finishing up his career with his hometown Vikings seem about as low as they can get. At least according to Peterson.
