Marcus Davenport – DE (New Orleans Saints)

2020 Stats:

  • 21 tackles (3 for a loss)
  • 17 pressures
  • 8 quarterback hits
  • 1.5 sacks

Now that the Vikings know Danielle Hunter will be suiting up for them next season, they can turn their attention to figuring out who will be the team’s other starting defensive end.

Guys like D.J. Wonnum, Stephen Weatherly, and a few others are expected to be in contention for the role. But if Minnesota isn’t satisfied with giving any of their current players the job, they could look to see if there is a defensive end with starting experience that they could possibly trade for.

Marcus Davenport is someone that could be made available for the right price. Davenport hasn’t really lived up to his expectations since the New Orleans Saints selected him in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

However, Vikings co-defensive coordinator Andre Patterson is known for getting the most out of his pass rushers, and there’s reason to think he could do the same for Davenport. If Minnesota can acquire him for a mid-round draft pick, it’s certainly a deal they should consider.
