3 dream trade targets for the Minnesota Vikings in 2022
By Adam Patrick
D.K. Metcalf – WR (Seattle Seahawks)
2020 Stats:
- 83 catches
- 1,303 yards (15.7 average)
- 10 touchdowns
After missing a good chunk of the 2019 season due to injury, Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen was able to bounce back last year with 74 catches for 925 yards and 14 touchdowns.
However, Thielen will turn 31-years-old in August, and he hasn’t finished with 1,000 receiving yards or more in a season since 2018. He also has a cap hit of almost $17 million in 2022, which doesn’t seem like a number Minnesota is going to be comfortable with, no matter how well he performs next season.
So if the Vikings end up moving on from Thielen in 2022, D.K. Metcalf would be an excellent replacement to pair with Justin Jefferson in the team’s passing attack.
Metcalf has only been in the NFL for two years and he’s already established himself as one of the best wide receivers in the league. His combination of size, speed, and strength is unlike anything the NFL has really seen since Calvin Johnson used to hit the field every week for the Detroit Lions.
Let’s say things don’t end up going very well for the Seattle Seahawks during the upcoming season. Maybe instead of just tossing out the idea of wanting the team to trade him, perhaps Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson actually demands the team to send him elsewhere in 2022.
If that happens, several other Seattle players would likely want to play somewhere else too, including Metcalf. And if this winds up being the case, Minnesota should certainly be one of the teams to try and acquire the talented young receiver.
