3 dream trade targets for the Minnesota Vikings in 2022
By Adam Patrick
Lamar Jackson – QB
2020 Stats:
- 64.4 percent completion rate
- 2,757 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, 9 interceptions
- 1,005 rushing yards (6.3 average), 7 rushing touchdowns
Following the upcoming 2021 season, the Vikings will have a very big decision to make about quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Currently, Cousins’ contract with Minnesota is set to expire in 2023. However, the Vikings can clear $35 million in cap space in 2022 if they figure out a way to trade the veteran quarterback elsewhere.
At this moment, a trade scenario like this seems highly unlikely. But if the Baltimore Ravens decided they wanted to move on from Lamar Jackson in 2022 and start over at the quarterback position, perhaps they would be interested in acquiring Cousins to be a one-year placeholder so that they can draft and develop a young passing prospect.
Jackson has already experienced a great amount of success since he entered the NFL in 2018, including being named the league MVP in 2019. However, the Ravens haven’t been able to turn his achievements during the regular season into success in the playoffs.
If more of the same continues for Jackson and Baltimore during the 2021 campaign, then maybe they will look to make a drastic change under center.
Minnesota adding Jackson to their roster would immediately make them a contender in the NFC. Just imagine a Vikings offense with Jackson, Dalvin Cook, and Justin Jefferson. It would potentially be one of the top offensive units in the entire NFL.
But, once again, all of these possible deals that have been mentioned are dream trades for the Vikings. There is no expectation that Minnesota will acquire any of these three players in 2022, but things would definitely get a lot more exciting if they did.
