Punt returner

Top competitors:

  • Chad Beebe
  • K.J. Osborn
  • Ihmir Smith-Marsette

Yes, special teams are a mess. This list included a kicker, long snapper, and both return positions. The fact so many spots are up for grabs has to be somewhat scary for a unit that was absolutely frustrating to watch in 2020.

Punt returns were absolutely brutal last year. Both K.J. Osborn and Chad Beebe had memorable muffs last year that are memorable, opening the job up to any individual who can step up and be consistent during training camp.

Rookie wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette has a bath wide open to take this job and run with it. He can be dynamic with the football in his hands by making defenders miss with great elusiveness if he can consistently make catches.

The potential of Smith-Marsette has to be more appealing than the redemption of Osborn or Beebe. If the rookie falters though, one of the returning members of the Vikings will likely be waiting for open arms.

Projected winner: Ihmir Smith-Marsette
