Despite using the majority of spare financial resources on defense in free agency, the Vikings still managed to pick up some exciting college prospects in the draft to further boost their options. Some veterans on the team are heading into the twilight of their careers, so getting younger within certain positional groups was vital this offseason.

One player that comes with more intrigue than most is Patrick Jones II. The former Pittsburgh star was a driving force coming off the edge and Minnesota thought enough of the player to take him at No. 90 overall as a result.

Jones is a momentum-based player that’s difficult to stop when he gets it going early. His final two seasons in college came with 17.5 sacks and 24 tackles for loss, which is a strong indicator of the havoc he can cause.

The edge rusher made a strong impression during the early offseason program, which will stand Jones in superb stead ahead of his first professional training camp. Expect to see him on the field plenty during the preseason, which could be enough to convince the coaching staff he’s worthy of a substantial role on the rotation.

There is an enormous amount of upside where Jones is concerned. Turning heads at training camp is well within his capabilities.
