Which Minnesota Vikings players are entering the last chance saloon in 2021?
The stakes could not be much higher for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021. This is a team that massively underachieved last season despite the injury bug hitting them hard. Simply put, things have to improve in the coming months to ensure the natives don’t become more restless with the current regime.
Mike Zimmer got every wish he could want this offseason. Minnesota strengthened significantly in problem areas, and if everything clicks into place, then an instant return to the postseason won’t be far behind.
Some players on the roster have more on the line than others. If things don’t work out for these individuals, their long-term NFL aspirations will be hanging in the balance.
With this in mind, let’s take a look at five Vikings players entering the last chance saloon in 2021.
Player No. 1
Dakota Dozier – OG
There is a high chance Dakota Dozier doesn’t start for the Vikings in 2021. The team now has promising rookie Wyatt Davis to slot into the lineup, although much will depend on whether the Ohio State product is ready from the outset or not.
Even if Dozier manages to hold down a starting berth early on, he’s going to be on a short leash. His production in 2020 left a lot to be desired, and if the same complications resurface during the upcoming campaign, Minnesota won’t hesitate to bench him in favor of Davis.
High stakes for Dozier, obviously. But having someone breathing down his neck might bring an increased sense of urgency and improved production as a result.
