5 candidates to be the Vikings starting right guard in 2021
By Adam Carlson
Dru Samia
If Dru Samia ends up being the starting right guard for the Minnesota Vikings this year something terrible has happened. That means Wyatt Davis struggled mightily and needs more time to play and Mason Cole regressed or was unable to take on the role.
Samia has played in 15 games for the purple and gold, starting three of those contests. He graded out extremely poorly by Pro Football Focus and was often seen getting pushed backward by bigger and stronger defensive linemen.
With that experience and another offseason under his belt, the Vikings have to hope he returns to the team with a burning desire to prove that his struggles are a thing of the past and his third year in the NFL will be much better.
If he can drastically improve his pass protection as well as get better as a run blocker, there is a chance Samia might be an option. However, there are lofty hopes to put on a player who hasn’t given fans a lot to be excited about.
