How many injuries has Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Michael Pierce dealt with during his NFL career?

Standing on the sidelines is not how Michael Pierce had envisioned his first training camp with the Minnesota Vikings beginning.

But thanks to a calf injury he reportedly suffered during a recent training session, Pierce is not expected to participate in the early portion of the Vikings training camp that begins next week.

Luckily, the 28-year-old’s injured calf is not expected to prevent him from being ready to play in Minnesota’s first game of the 2021 season.

Since hitting the field for his first snap in the NFL in 2016, Pierce has only missed four games due to injury. After signing with the Vikings last year, he did decide to opt out of the entire 2020 season due to health concerns related to COVID-19.

This injury has been labeled as “fairly minor,” and missing any games during the 2021 season is not currently expected to be a result of the ailment. With it being a soft tissue injury, however, it’s certainly something to keep an eye on if it remains an issue as the season inches closer.

After injuring his ankle in a Week 10 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals while he was a member of the Baltimore Ravens, Pierce wound up needing to sit out a pair of games. He was on the Ravens’ injury report for a total of four weeks due to his injury.

The veteran defensive tackle arrived to Baltimore’s 2019 mandatory minicamp significantly above his listed playing weight (340 pounds) and he was removed from the practice field for the safety of his own health.
