Former St. John’s University quarterback Jackson Erdmann recently had the opportunity to work out for the Minnesota Vikings.

Over the years, the Minnesota Vikings have done their best to utilize some of the talent that is most close to home.

Several current Vikings players are from the state of Minnesota or they grew up in a surrounding area including Adam Thielen, C.J. Ham, and Shane Zylstra.

Recently, the Vikings invited three guys to come and see if they could earn a spot on this summer’s roster. Dede Westbrook was part of the group and he ended up getting a contract from Minnesota. But who were the other two players that worked out with Westbrook?

Along with Westbrook, wide receiver Tommylee Lewis and quarterback Jackson Erdmann were also invited to work out for the Vikings this past Saturday.

Lewis has bounced around the NFL during the last few years, spending some time with the Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers, and most recently, the New Orleans Saints. He’s listed as a wide receiver, but he’s mostly had return duties during his time in the league since he’s never caught more than 10 passes in a season.

Erdmann is probably a familiar name for Vikings fans that also call the state of Minnesota home. He spent his college career at nearby St. John’s University (Division III) and in his final season at the school in 2019, the 6-foot-4, 215-pound passer threw for 5,040 yards, 47 touchdowns, and just 10 interceptions.

Since leaving St. John’s, Erdmann took part in the recent Fan Controlled Football league and he’s reportedly had some interest from the Chicago Bears.

He might be a name to keep in mind if one of the Vikings’ current quarterbacks suffers an injury during this summer’s training camp or preseason.
