Why ask Wyatt?

As updated in the Day 1 takeaways, the Minnesota Vikings are being thorough in their search for a starting right guard. The fact they want to get this decision right is admirable and not leaving out any potentially good options is wise.

During the drills and workouts, Judd Zulgad took to Twitter to say that he believes Dakota Dozier and Oli Udoh will be key parts of that battle but also shared a little tidbit about another option who might be of interest to fans as well as the coaches.

He stated that rookie guard Wyatt Davis was spotted on the sideline working on exchanges with rookie quarterback Kellen Mond after practice but didn’t reveal why he didn’t include his name among the top candidates for the starting job.

Whether he was working out for position versatility or just acting as a center to help Mond, being able to assume any role on the interior of the offensive line would increase Davis’ value as a backup or rotational player if he doesn’t wind up winning a starting gig.
