Right Guard

The Vikings offensive line is the biggest question mark heading into the 2021 season and one spot on it that is completely up for grabs is right guard. This was going to be an article about secondary spots up for grabs but after five days of camp, who will ultimately man this job is still completely up in the air.

The scariest thing is that the guys who are currently getting all the reps aren’t very good football players. Dakota Dozier has seen the most time at the position, but he continues to be the absolute turnstile he was a season ago.

Dru Samia is supposedly in the running, and while he hasn’t seen a ton of reps on the right side, the team has experimented with him as the backup left guard last season and he has been thrown into the backfield much like he was a season ago.

Oli Udoh has also been given a shot and while he is no sure thing, at least the Vikings and their fans have hope that he can emerge into a competent blocker.

Rookie guard Wyatt Davis is the big name that has already missed some time. Minnesota has historically been slow to just give a rookie a starting job and will make them earn it. That was the case the first couple days of camp, but then Davis suffered an ankle injury and he lost some valuable reps.

The Vikings’ offensive line could be their Achilles heel this season, and the right guard spot is the biggest sore spot unless one of these players can win the job outright and provide some solid performances on game days.
