If the Minnesota Vikings are looking for someone a bit more versatile, then Jaylen Watkins could come into consideration. The defensive back can operate at cornerback or as a safety, which is something that Mike Zimmer might be able to put to good use in 2021.

The former fourth-round pick out of Florida has a Super Bowl ring following a successful stint with the Philadelphia Eagles. Watkins also spent the last two seasons on the Los Angeles Chargers, starting four games and accumulating 37 tackles.

Watkins is a solid backup option, which is all the Vikings are probably looking for at this juncture. The top-four cornerbacks are set in stone barring injury, but a little more experience might be needed behind this foursome.

It’s unlikely this move will cost the earth. Watkins is probably looking for an opportunity to make a roster at this stage, something he would definitely have in front of him at training camp in Minnesota.

As stated previously, the Vikings could go with what they have.

However, this is a fluid situation now Jeff Gladney is no longer around and the money is there to secure additional reinforcements should they wish.
