Vikings Training Camp 2021: Top 4 takeaways from Day 9
By Adam Carlson
A scary moment
The biggest thing to happen for the Minnesota Vikings during Friday’s training camp activities was an injury to star wide receiver Justin Jefferson. He made a diving catch with a defender landing on top of him and stayed on the turf while being tended to by the medical staff during 11-on-11 drills.
For a while, fans around the globe held their breath and hoped the injury was nothing serious. Thankfully, Adam Schefter reported on Twitter that the ailment was a sprained AC joint on his left shoulder and shouldn’t be anything too serious that keeps him from getting on the field for the regular season.
Jefferson will need to rest that shoulder well if he hopes to be ready for the team’s season opener against the Bengals. That means he will likely not see any more action during practices and drills and probably won’t be a participant in any of the team’s preseason games.
Things could have been a lot worse. There were some fears the injury was something more severe. Some speculated it could have been a collarbone injury but this was one of the best outcomes out of an injury since it can heal without surgery and Jefferson can get back with his teammates for meaningful football.
