Kicking it all off

For the first time during training camp, kickoffs happened during training camp. Interestingly enough, rookie Kene Nwangwu got the nod to be the one handing the job but that doesn’t mean the competition is over according to Courtney Cronin on Twitter.

The young running back should have every chance in the world to win this job. However, he will still need to fight off the returning Ameer Abdullah if he is to handle the kickoff return duties in 2021.

Meanwhile, competition is still in full effect to be the team’s punt returner. Dede Westbrook has been working on fielding those kicks but Ihmir Smith-Marsette, Ameer Abdullah, and Chad Beebe are all still in the running as well.

There is still a lot of time left for someone to emerge with either one of those jobs. But if you’re a betting person and want the safest bet, picking Nwangwu and Westbrook to return kicks and punts for the Minnesota Vikings seems to be the wisest choice.
