Mond. Games, Mond.

Rookie quarterback Kellen Mond is eligible to return to the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday, Aug. 10 if he tests to be asymptomatic following his positive COVID-19 test. His 10-day isolation from the team has kept him out of camp for a little while, but he should be back at TCO Stadium tomorrow barring any setbacks.

The quarterback situation this preseason has been a rough one. At one point, all but one quarterback was sent into isolation after coming in close contact with Mond but some good came out of that development with Jake Browning stepping up to become the favorite for the QB2 role.

Judd Zulgad of SKOR North spoke about this and shared that he doesn’t expect the pecking order at quarterback to change when Mond returns. He believes “any hope he had of attempting to push Browning for the backup job is likely gone.”

There is no reason to rush Kellen Mond along. Having him sit and learn from Kirk Cousins this season as he continues to grow and develop as an NFL quarterback could do wonders for him on a long-term level. Having him as the QB3 on the 53-man roster would be a good first step for the young quarterback, and should be the route taken.
