Get Riley’ed up
Earlier in these takeaways, I mentioned that it would be difficult for Riley Patterson to close the gap on Greg Joseph in the kicking competition. He seems to have taken that challenge very seriously and is pushing to make this duel go down to the wire.
According to Eric Smith on Twitter, Joseph is 24/30 on his kicks during training camp. Although Patterson has missed time while on the PUP list, he hasn’t missed since returning to the team for camp.
I’m not doing usual #Vikings 3 Observations since it’s just a walk-through, but worth noting Riley Patterson just hit all 5 field goals in team period. Long was 47 yards.

By my count, he’s 7/7 so far after coming off PUP list.
Joseph is 24/30 overall in camp.
The kicking job might come down to the team’s three preseason games. Don’t be surprised if Joseph and Patterson each get one game as the placekicker with the third game seeing each kicker alternate kicks or each getting one half of play.
This race will go down to the wire!
