Zimmer compliments

As many fans know, Mike Zimmer doesn’t hand out compliments very easily. If he says something positive about a player, odds are that those words are well deserved and represent honest feelings or observations from the team’s head coach.

The latest recipient of praise has been wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette, who has been enjoying a wonderful training camp The former Iowa playmaker has been turning heads and the Minnesota Vikings head coach has a plan for him.

"“He’s gonna be a good player,” Zimmer said according to Sports Illustrated. “I’m trying to get him better on special teams because he’s going to have that role. He’s still going to have to do better there.”"

There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting a start on special teams. Many players have gotten their foot in the door that way and Smith-Marsette can use his speed to work his way up depth charts.

This statment should make him a lock to make the team’s 53-man roster this season. Considering the competition past Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson will be stiff and making decisions will be tough. However, this is a great sign for the young Iowa speedster.
