Chad Beebe – WR

Chad Beebe is a guy who the coaches seem to love more than the fans. He isn’t very big or fast, but he runs slick routes and is very quick in and out of his breaks. However, he has shown questionable hands in the past, especially when it comes to fielding punts. He almost blew the game against the Panthers with a muffed punt last year before making the game-winning catch to save himself.

Coming into camp, Beebe was seen as a guy who more than likely would make the roster. He was a veteran who the coaching staff loves, and other than fifth-round pick Ihmir Smith-Marsette, there wasn’t a ton of new competition on the depth chart. Beebe is still likely to make the roster, but it isn’t because of what he’s shown on the field this preseason.

News about Beebe making plays in practice has been scant. The most we’ve heard from him are his continued struggles fielding punts. The Vikings have been extremely stubborn about making changes, but it’s time they just give up on the Beebe as a punt returner possibility, as he just has a hard time judging and catching the ball.

The reason that Beebe is going to be safe is because of the injuries that have hit the Vikings’ receiving corps. Bisi Johnson was lost for the season early in camp, Dede Westbrook can’t seem to get healthy, and undrafted rookie Blake Proehl also blew out his knee. Beebe will probably make the final 53-man roster, but he’s been very underwhelming so far this summer.
