Stephen Weatherly – DE
With the addition of Everson Griffen to the Vikings roster on Monday, Stephen Weatherly’s future with the team is in doubt.
Weatherly signed a one-year deal worth $2.5 million with Minnesota a few months ago, but only $500,000 of the contract is fully guaranteed. Meaning if the Vikings want to move on from Weatherly before the start of the regular season, they can save $2 million by cutting him or trading him.
If Minnesota is leaning towards not keeping Weatherly around this year, they would probably look to trade him before releasing him.
The Vikings obviously wouldn’t receive a lucrative return package in exchange for the veteran defensive end. But a seventh-round pick is something that Minnesota would likely be satisfied with in return for Weatherly.
