Larry Fitzgerald to Minnesota? Patrick Peterson gives his thoughts
By Adam Patrick
Minnesota Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson recently shared his latest thoughts on the possibility of his former teammate, Larry Fitzgerald, signing with the purple and gold.
Before he made a name for himself with the Arizona Cardinals, All-Pro wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald grew up in the Twin Cities rooting for the Minnesota Vikings.
So when Fitzgerald hit free agency this year, it wasn’t surprising when multiple people suggested the Vikings as a possible landing spot for the veteran receiver.
However, as time passed by throughout the summer, the chances of this happening continued to get lower and lower. Recently, Minnesota cornerback Patrick Peterson, a former teammate of Fitzgerald’s in Arizona, shared his thoughts on the talented pass-catcher possibly signing with the Vikings this year.
Patrick Peterson doesn’t believe Larry Fitzgerald will sign with Minnesota Vikings
During a recent episode of his “All Things Covered” podcast, Peterson was asked about the likelihood of Fitzgerald finishing his career in Minnesota.
The Vikings cornerback quickly responded and said there is “zero,” chance the legendary receiver will sign with the purple and gold. Peterson went on to say that the Cardinals are the only team he could see Fitzgerald suiting up for this season if he plays at all.
Not too long ago, Fitzgerald stated that he “doesn’t have the urge to play right now.” Based on those comments and the fact that he still hasn’t signed with a team this year, it sounds like the 38-year-old receiver is as close to being retired without actually saying he’s retired.
At this point in the year, Minnesota doesn’t really have a ton of room on their roster for Fitzgerald anyways. The regular season is less than two weeks from beginning and he would have a lot of catching up to do before the Vikings would probably feel comfortable enough trotting him out on the field for a significant amount of plays each week.
Fitzgerald ending his NFL career in his hometown was a fun thought to have during the last few months. But we can safely assume right now that he won’t ever take the field in a Vikings uniform if he decides he wants to return to the NFL at some point.
