Special teams are looking good

Heading into Week 1, fans were right to be concerned about the special teams unit of the Minnesota Vikings. Once again, the team brought a new kicker and punter into the fray, and questions about their ability to work as a unit when being thrown together late in the preseason had to be asked.

Kicker Greg Joseph probably made Vikings fans poop their pants when he connected on a 53-yard field goal with time expiring to send the game into overtime. He ended the day perfect, making all three of his extra points to go with the clutch kick to end regulation.

Joseph wasn’t the only specialist dropping jaws. New punter Jordan Berry averaged a whopping 50.3 yards per punt on the day with one of those landing inside the 20-yard line and one amazing 63-yard boot flipping the field position battle.

Not only that but the coverage and return units seemed good as well. The unit played a nearly mistake-free game while the other two units struggled at times to do their jobs effectively. For now, things feel good for the special teamers.
