One defender shines while another struggles

The Minnesota Vikings were aggressive in free agency this offseason. They were exceptionally aggressive when it came to getting some veterans on defense to make sure the unit was nowhere near the train wreck it was last season.

One player who shined in this game was linebacker Nick Vigil. He was everywhere on Sunday, registering eight tackles, a pick-six, and a recovered fumble that nearly wiped out an Arizona red zone appearance.

Meanwhile, Vikings fans couldn’t step foot on Twitter without seeing frustration about cornerback Bashaud Breeland. In fact, Cameron Dantzler had been in Mike Zimmer’s doghouse for a while now, but even he looked solid (other than a missed tackle) against Arizona.

Consistency is what is important. With a strong duo in the middle of the defensive line, Danielle Hunter wrecking shop, and Vigil and Eric Kendricks at linebacker, the Vikings were able to get two takeaways on Arizona, giving them a much better chance of a victory.
