How many different injuries has Dalvin Cook dealt with since he began his career with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017?
Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook has never been one to shy away from contact. So Cook getting banged up is just something that is expected whenever he steps out on the field.
He dealt with some pretty significant injuries early in his tenure with the Vikings. But since 2019, he’s been able to stay on the field for the majority of each season as he’s only missed a total of three games due to injury.
Cook‘s ability to remain on the field for most of the last two years allowed him to emerge as one of the best running backs in the entire NFL.
Injury history of Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook
Currently, Cook is dealing with an ankle injury that he suffered in Minnesota’s Week 2 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. It doesn’t sound like the running back will be out of action for the Vikings in Week 3, but it’s still definitely something to keep an eye on.

Based on some comments from Cook and Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer, it doesn’t sound like the running back’s current ankle injury is very severe at this point. However, his injured ankle has caused Cook to miss two Vikings practices so far. Minnesota is still hoping he will be healthy enough for Sunday so that they can let him loose against the Seattle Seahawks.
Dalvin Cook groin injury, October 2020
Cook suffered a groin injury midway through Minnesota’s Week 5 matchup with the Seahawks last season. The injury only kept him out for the Vikings following game in Week 6 and then he had another week to recover since the team had their bye in Week 7. He returned in Week 8 and exploded for 226 total yards and four touchdowns on 32 touches in a Minnesota win over the Green Bay Packers.

In a Week 15 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, Cook suffered a shoulder injury that ended up keeping him out of action for the Vikings’ final two regular-season games of 2019. He returned to the field for Minnesota’s first-round playoff upset of the New Orleans Saints and he finished with 130 total yards and two touchdowns on 31 touches.

Two games into his 2018 season with the Vikings, Cook suffered a hamstring injury that ended up keeping him out of action for a total of five games. After sitting out for Minnesota’s Week 3 game with the injury, he attempted to come back in Week 4, but he was only on the field for 18 of the team’s offensive snaps. He returned in Week 9 and remained in the lineup for the rest of the season.
Dalvin Cook torn ACL, October 2017
After a very impressive start to his rookie year with the Vikings, Cook went down with a season-ending knee injury in the team’s Week 4 win over the Detroit Lions.
Luckily for Minnesota, they were still able to have a very successful 2017 campaign that ended with them earning a spot in the NFC Championship.
