Russell Okung – LT

We know the Vikings used their 2021 first-round pick on former Christian Darrisaw to be this season’s starting left tackle. But Darrisaw has been dealing with a nagging groin injury for the last few months and he still hasn’t appeared in a game for Minnesota.

As the Vikings wait for their top 2021 draft pick to recover enough to get on the field, Rashod Hill is manning the spot on the left side of the team’s offensive line. So far, Hill has easily been the worst-performing member of Minnesota’s offensive line.

If the Vikings would like to give Darrisaw as much time as possible to recover from his groin injury to avoid any possibility of re-injury, signing someone like Russell Okung might be the route to take.

Injuries have limited Okung to just 13 games in the last two seasons, but when he’s on the field, he’s been able to perform at a solid level. He’s been a starting left tackle in the NFL since 2010, so he’s got plenty of valuable experience.

Okung apparently isn’t looking to sign with a team that isn’t willing to pay him a good chunk of change, so that could be something the prevents Minnesota from bringing him in. But if the Vikings truly think Okung could help their chances to get back to the playoffs this season, then they need to do whatever is necessary to add him to their current roster.
