Bashaud Breeland – CB

The Vikings defense struggled early in this game and the biggest reason why was the play of cornerback Bashaud Breeland. This guy has been a major liability in the team’s first two losses and that trend continued early in the game against Seattle.

Breeland was at fault for Seattle’s first touchdown of the game. He gave a huge cushion to D.K. Metcalf, basically giving him a free touchdown. That was perhaps a coaching decision and Breeland was doing what he was told. Regardless, it was bad play all around.

While Breeland could be given a pass for that first touchdown, there is no denying the Seahawks targeted him moving forward. He consistently gave up receptions to basically any Seattle receiver that lined up next to him, allowing the team to pick up first downs and march down the field.

Things got better for Breeland in the second half as the Vikings’ put together long drives that kept Russell Wilson and the Seahawks’ offense off the field, and he wasn’t targeted as heavily. It was definitely a tale of two halves for Breeland against the Seattle, but the veteran’s play continues to be a major sore spot, and it’s one that opposing offenses will continue to exploit.
